The Ethiopian Athletes are coming

The majority of Ethiopia’s London 2012 team will be arriving at Heathrow terminal 3 today at 6pm on national carrier Ethiopian Airlines.

The delegation will include the current Olympic gold medal winner in the 5,000m and 10,000m Tirunesh Dibaba, who won the medals in Beijing.

Also arriving will be aspiring young new athletes – a complete list of athletes with the events they will be participating in follows.

For the first time ever, Ethiopia will be competing at Olympic level in swimming events – both the men’s and women’s 50m freestyle races.

Athletes will also be competing for the first time at this level in middle distance races such as the 400m and 800m.

The delegation will be warmly met by an Ethiopian dance troupe, Ethiopian Embassy staff and a large number of members of the Ethiopian diaspora, including representatives of the Ethiopian National Consensus Forum, a range of Ethiopian development associations and the Ethiopian diaspora members at large.
