Saudi Arabia refused to return the Eritrean presidential jet that was stolen by two high ranking Eritrean Air Force pilots on October 02, 2012. The two pilots who took the only luxury Airplane in the Eritrean Air force are seeking political asylum in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Atlantic article, the Eritrean government sent a delegation that included among others a Major General and pilots to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to secure the return of the Presidential jet and the pilots. The government of Saudi Arabia refused to give up the defecting pilots and the plane.
The Unfortunate incident left President Isaias Afeworki with one option for transportation; he has to use commercial flights.
The really sad thing about this is the presidential jet was reportedly a gift from the rich Middle East nation of Qatar. Qatar is a key ally of President Isaias in the Middle East.
