“Ethiopians in the Vancouver area have worked so hard to make these recent two fundraising events very successful” says Mr. Kassa Seged, Communications Direct at Ethio Abay BC. “Both the dinner and the running events have raised more than what we anticipated. We will continue to support the GERD project until it is fully completed. We will have at least one fundraising event a year towards the fulfillment of the GERD project. This project will definitely help Ethiopia’s economy in the long term, and we are excited to be part of the new generation that is determined to make this project a reality.”

“A large number of people who came out for the dinner fundraiser had a great time at Axum restaurant, which graciously made their facility available for this event for free of charge. The Meles Zenawi run was held appropriately at Stanley Park, reflecting the green legacy of Meles Zenawi. Since we started the campaign earlier this spring, we have raised a total of $106,355 USD – this amount is a moving target, as people who did not get the chance to attend the fundraising events will continue to join the rest of us by buying bonds and making donations in the coming weeks and months. We want to thank everyone who participated in these fundraising events”, says Mrs. Freweyni Tesfay, GERD organizing committee chairperson for Vancouver chapter.
