Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Tedros Adhanom has met with a group of senior executives of General Electric led by Mr. Shane Fitzsimmons Chief Financial Officer GE, Global Growth Operations.
General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world, engaged in aviation, transportation, energy, healthcare oil and gas and financial services. With a US$150 billion revenue it is among the world’s five top companies.
The company’s high level executives are on a tour of Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania to explore market opportunities.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom invited the company to invest in manufacturing tertiary health services, in energy and in other priority sectors. He explained Ethiopia’s conducive investment regime, its top-rated airline and railway network for communication links, pointing out Ethiopia offers significant export opportunities, and gave a detailed explanation of the Growth and Transformation Plan and the country’s development vision.
In response to a question about the success of Ethiopia’s health system, Dr. Tedros stressed that political commitment, a clear roadmap and the focus on primary health were key to the achievements made so far.
The delegation affirmed General Electric’s commitment to partner with Ethiopia and invest in the country’s priority sectors. It is on a week-long visit to Ethiopia. The company opened a local office in 2011
